Oscar-winning Toronto director Daniel Roher (pictured) has gone to camera on his first narrative feature film, Tuner.
The crime thriller is produced by JoAnne Sellar (Phantom Thread) and Lila Yacoub (Lady Bird) along with Elevation Pictures, which will handle Canadian distribution. Black Bear has international rights for the film. Filming is now underway in Toronto.
Tuner, written by Roher and Robert Ramsey (Soul Men), focuses on a talented piano tuner who realizes his particular set of skills can also be applied to safe cracking.
The film stars Leo Woodall (The White Lotus) and Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate). Also starring are Lior Raz (Fauda), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Jean Reno (The Pink Panther) and Tovah Feldshuh (The Walking Dead).
Roher’s previous feature films are the documentaries Blink (Fishbowl Films), a 2024 Canada/U.S. coproduction co-directed with Edmund Stenson; Navalny, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film in 2023 alongside producers Odessa Rae, Diane Becker, Melanie Miller and Shane Boris; as well as 2019’s Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and the Band, produced by White Pine Pictures for Crave.
