Toronto’s Go Button Media has inked a six-series deal with existing partners Autentic and Super Channel.
The agreement will see Go Button produce 36 hours of factual content, which will be broadcast by Super Channel in Canada and distributed globally by Munich-based Autentic, excluding Canada.
The first commission out of the agreement is Secrets of Ancient Structures (6 x 60 minutes), which looks at some of the most remarkable structural achievements from ancient civilizations. The series will be delivered by summer 2025, according to a news release.
The deal builds on Go Button Media’s ongoing collaborations with both Autentic and Super Channel. Previously commissioned series include Colossal Weapons and Deadly Science.
Blue Ant Studios
Blue Ant Studios’ rights division has acquired the U.K. documentary The Eunuch Maker for worldwide distribution (excluding the U.K.), with international sales launching at MIPCOM Cannes next month.
Produced by Future Studios and Krempelwood for Hearst Networks EMEA, where it will premiere later this year, the true-crime doc will be available in both a 2 x 60-minute version hosted by journalist and author Marcel Theroux and an unhosted 60-minute version.
The film tells the incredible story of the discovery in 2022 of a group of men who were performing castrations and live-streaming them to paying customers online. The ringleader, “Eunuch Maker,” was accused of being a cult-like leader of a group that mutilated men and sold body parts.
Cineflix Rights
Cineflix Rights has acquired the rights to two international titles ahead of MIPCOM.
The company has become the worldwide distribution partner for the U.K. daytime travelogue series A New Life in the Sun and its two spinoff series, totalling more than 400 episodes. The deal includes 10 seasons of A New Life in the Sun, seven seasons of A New Life in the Sun: Where Are They Now? and one season of A New Life in the Sun: Road Trip. The titles are produced by True North for Channel 4.
Cineflix has also acquired the Japanese series Heart Attack. Billed as a live-action anime, the 8 x 45-minute series is set in a post-pandemic Japan where portions of the population have developed supernatural abilities and are being persecuted by the government.
Heart Attack is based on the graphic novel of the same name and is produced by Skybound Entertainment for Fuji TV.
CBC
CBC Gem has acquired the exclusive Canadian rights to the U.K. drama Joan (6 x 30 minutes) and Australian comedy Austin (8 x 30 minutes).
Joan follows a young woman who becomes a jewel thief to try to build a new life for her daughter. The series is produced by Snowed-In Productions for ITV in the U.K. and the CW in the U.S., and is distributed by All3Media International. It will debut on Gem on Oct. 11.
Austin centres on a children’s author who nearly destroys his career after creating a social media scandal, but then discovers he has a neurodiverse son who could change his public image. It is produced by Lincoln Pictures and Northern Pictures for ABC Australia and distributed by ITV Studios. The series lands on Gem on Oct. 18.
