Canadian features Rêver en néon (Neon Dreaming) and Home Free (pictured) will make their world premieres at the Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival.
Rêver en néon is directed by Marie-Claire Marcotte and will premiere Sunday (Sept. 15). The French-language film is produced by Marcotte and Corey Loranger, and executive-produced by Martin Katz of Toronto’s Prospero Pictures.
Filmed in Sudbury and Chelmsford, Ont., Rêver en néon is based on Marcotte’s play of the same name about a young girl who tries to solve the mystery of her mother’s true identity.
The film was produced with the support of Telefilm Canada, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, Ontario Crates, APFC and Radio-Canada.
Home Free is directed and produced by Avi Federgreen, and will debut at Cinéfest on Sept. 18.
The film is a dark family drama that follows estranged sisters who are reunited after the death of their father. It was shot in Paris, Ont., with a script written by Federgreen, Sarah Deakins and Reese Eveneshen.
The Canadian cast includes Michelle Nolden (Heartland), Tara Spencer-Nairn (Corner Gas) Natalie Brown (The Strain), Art Hindle (The Brood), Jill Frappier (Hudson & Rex), Al Mukadam (Miss Sloane) and Gord Rand (Transplant).
Home Free is produced by Federgreen Entertainment, Lucky Dime Films, JPO & Co. Entertainment, Filmcoop and Bella Vita Pictures. Laura Tremblay, Jennifer Pogue, Emily Andrews, Julia Tomasone and Emily Foster are producers alongside Federgreen. Indiecan Entertainment is handling Canadian distribution.
Cinéfest runs from Sept. 14 to 22.
