Martin Katz, Ngardy Conteh George win Indiescreen Awards

The 2024 awards were presented at the Atlantic International Film Festival on Sept. 12.

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) has announced Martin Katz (pictured left) and Ngardy Conteh George (pictured right) as the 2024 Indiescreen Awards winners.

Katz (The Shrouds), president of the Toronto-based production company Prospero Pictures, won the Established Producer Award. It honours a producer’s filmmaking achievements over the course of their career and includes a $20,000 prize.

George (Mr. Jane and Finch) won the $10,000 Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award. She is a Sierra Leonean-Canadian director, producer and editor who co-founded the OYA Media Group alongside Alison Duke.

The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) on Thursday (Sept. 12).

The winners were selected by two national juries. The jury for the Established Producer Award was chaired by lori lozinski, president of Violator Films.

The other jurors for the award included Richard Jean-Baptiste, VP and executive producer and partner at Montreal-based Attraction; Lisa Haller, the director or programming for AIFF; Cree/Metis filmmaker, showrunner and producer Loretta Sarah Todd; and actor and filmmaker Jonathan Torrens.

The jury for the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award was chaired by Other Memory Media’s Anam Abbas, who won the award in 2023.

The other jurors for the award included Jenn Brown, executive director for the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival; Gail Case, executive director at The Black Academy; actor Max Topplin, founder and president of 4AM Studios; and Mike Volpe, president of Topsail Entertainment.

“Bravo to Martin and Ngardy, who inspire us all through their tireless efforts to bring our stories to life for audiences at home and around the world,” said Reynolds Mastin, president and CEO of CMPA in a statement.
