Jules Arita Koostachin’s Angela’s Shadow added to VIFF slate

The narrative feature will makes its world premiere at VIFF on Oct. 2.

Cree filmmaker Jules Arita Koostachin’s narrative feature Angela’s Shadow has been added as a world premiere for the 2024 edition of the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF).

Angela’s Shadow was directed and produced by Koostachin through ChaKaSteTin Productions. It was co-written Koostachin and Steve Neufeld and received funding from Creative BC and Telefilm Canada. Patti Poskitt is the executive producer.

The English-language film stars Sera-Lys McArthur (pictured) and Matthew Kevin Anderson as a young Ottawa couple with a baby on the way, who travel to a Cree community in the north and are plagued by a shadow.

VIFF has scheduled two showings for the film, one on Oct. 2 and the other on Oct. 5.

Angela’s Shadow represents Koostachin’s sophomore narrative feature following 2022’s Broken Angel.

VIFF runs from Sept. 26 to Oct. 6.
