The Toronto comedy will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) tonight (Sept. 6) in the Platform programme.

The film is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Canadian cartoonist, and Lee’s former partner, Chester Brown. It follows the end of their relationship and, due to his desire to avoid getting into another relationship, Brown’s subsequent discovery of a new kind of intimacy with sex workers.

Paying For It was co-written by Lee and Joanne Sarazen (Tammy’s Always Dying). It is produced by Matt Code (Mary Goes Round) from Wildling Pictures along with Aeschylus Poulos (Sleeping Giant) and Sonya Di Rienzo (Brother) from Hawkeye Pictures.

Lee and Natalie Urquhart (Suits) are co-producers, while John Cameron Mitchell (Rabbit Hole) and star Dan Beirne (pictured right) are executive producers.

Co-starring alongside Beirne is Emily Lê (pictured left) and Andrea Werhun (Modern Whore).
