Bones of Crows, Transplant pick up TV noms for 2024 DGC Awards

The annual Directors Guild of Canada Awards will be presented on Oct. 28.

A score of Canadian series have received double nominations for the 23rd annual DGC Awards.

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) revealed the television nominees on Wednesday (Sept. 5), which cover categories for series, movies for television and mini-series. Winners will be announced and presented online on Oct. 28.

CBC limited series Bones of Crows (Marie Clements Media, Screen Siren Pictures, Grana Productions; pictured) got a nod for director Marie Clements for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies or Television or Mini-Series, as well as for James Philpott for Best Production Design – Dramatic Series & Mini-Series.

Other nominees in the category are Nimisha Mukerji for Hulu series Under the Bridge (Innovative Artists); Felipe Rodriguez for Hallmark Channel TV movie Never Too Late to Celebrate (1Department Entertainment); Michelle Ouellet for Lifetime movie Dying in Plain Sight (Polyscope Productions) and Anne Wheeler for Hallmark’s Heaven Down Here (Donald Munro, producer).

The CTV drama series Transplant (Sphere Media) scored two nominations, including Samir Rehem for the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series category and Annie Ilkow for Best Picture Editing – Drama series.

Also nominated for the dramatic series category are Hannah Cheesman for CBC Gem’s Something Undone (4AM Film Studios, Little Mama Media); Jeanne Leblanc for the Crave original Bellefleur (Trio Orange); David Frazee for MGM+ series Billy the Kid; and Amanda Tapping for Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives.

The nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series are Pat Mills for the CBC comedy Run the Burbs (Pier 21 Films), which also scored a nomination for Ingrid Jurek for Best Production Design; Yael Staav for CBC’s One More Time (Counterfeit Pictures); Fabrizio Filippo for Sort Of (Sphere Films); Kelly Fyffe-Marshall for the Crave comedy Bria Mack Gets a Life (New Metric Media), which also scored a nom for Best Picture Editing – Comedy or Family Series for Gloria Tong; and Tig Fong for the FX series What We Do in the Shadows.

The Apple TV+ series Jane (Sinking Ship Entertainment) received two nominations this year, one for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Family Series for Winnifred Jong, and for Best Sound Editing – Comedy or Family Series for Sean Karp, Cailey Milito and Aravind Sundar.

Nominations for features, documentaries and short films, as well as the short-list for the DGC’s Jean-Marc Vallée Discovery Award, will be announced at a later date.
