Rogers to launch six channels from WBD, NBCUniversal deals

The company will release the newly acquired raft of content via linear channels and its streamer Citytv+.

Rogers Communications has unveiled plans to roll out six new channels from its deals with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and NBCUniversal, along with additional streaming-only content.

The company announced Wednesday (Aug. 28) that TV channels for HGTV, Food Network, Magnolia, Discovery ID and Discovery will launch on Jan. 1, 2025. These channels are in addition to the previously announced Bravo launch, which will officially roll out on Sept. 1.

The new Bravo channel will include new seasons from the Real Housewives (pictured) and Below Deck franchises, as well as Southern Charm, Top Chef and Vanderpump Rules.

Rogers added that additional content from the Cooking Channel, OWN, Motor Trend, Animal Planet and Discovery Science will be available via its Citytv+ streaming service in January 2025. The streamer will also carry series from the new broadcast channels.

Rogers first announced in June that it had inked multi-year licensing deals with WBD and NBCUniversal for the rights to the channel brands and content.

The move marked a monumental shakeup for Canada’s specialty networks. Corus Entertainment is the current rights holder for HGTV, Food Network, Magnolia Network and Cooking Channel, until its agreement with WBD expires on Dec. 31. Similarly, Bell Media will hold the rights to the Discovery brands until the end of the year.

Bell Media has since filed for an injunction on the launch of the Discovery channels, claiming that its agreement with WBD protected against the launch of competing services. Rogers has countered that the claim is “without merit.” A court decision had not been made at press time.
