Underknown acquires Animalogic from Blue Ant Media

The multi-platform digital brand features factual nature content and was created in 2014.

Toronto-based digital media company Underknown has acquired the short-form nature docuseries brand Animalogic from Blue Ant Media.

With this acquisition, digital channel owner Underknown will expand its footprint to more than 90 channels spread across services such as Youtube, Snapchat, TikTok and Meta’s platforms.

“We have been big fans of Animalogic for many years,” said Steve Hulford, Underknown CEO and co-founder, in a statement. “It is hard to find good brands to buy on YouTube in the factual space, and we think what Blue Ant Media has built is one of the best.”

Animalogic was created by Dylan Dubeau and Andrew Strapp in 2014. Since then, the brand has accumulated more than two million subscribers on YouTube, over 500,000 on Snapchat and 83,000 followers on Facebook.

“Building this brand from scratch with our in-house creatives, and brilliant female scientists, has been a source of pride and inspiration for our team at Blue Ant Media,” added Jamie Schouela, Blue Ant’s president, global channels and media. “We are confident its next chapter at Underknown… will elevate Animalogic even further.”

Other Underknown channels include Aperture, acquired by the company in 2022, What If and Your Body On.

Blue Ant Media’s sale of Animalogic follows multiple sales from the Toronto-based media company since their acquisition of marblemedia. In February, global producer and distributor Fremantle announced they would be purchasing a majority stake of Singapore-based production company Beach House Pictures, as Blue Ant Media had sold off its stake in the company.

In June, Blue Ant Media sold tech news publication Mobile Syrup to ZoomerMedia, a Toronto-based company that owns media brands such as BlogTO and Daily Hive.
