Slice takes exclusive broadcast rights to The Daily Show

The series will be available to stream on both StackTV and Paramount+ in Canada as of Sept. 9.

Corus Entertainment specialty channel Slice has picked up Canadian broadcast and streaming rights to political satire series The Daily Show in Canada.

The broadcaster announced Tuesday (Aug. 20) that Slice will be the exclusive broadcast home to The Daily Show in Canada as of Sept. 9.

The series will also stream on Corus-owned StackTV, sharing a streaming window with its current Canadian home, Paramount+, Playback Daily has confirmed.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday, with flagship host Jon Stewart anchoring each Monday during the 2024 U.S. election cycle. His episodes include a special one-hour episode on Sept. 10, following the second presidential debate.

The long-running series previously aired on Bell Media specialty channel CTV Comedy (formerly known as the Comedy Network), which originally picked up the rights back in 1999. A spokesperson for Bell Media confirmed that the broadcaster has not held rights to the series since Aug. 31, 2023.

The Daily Show continues to be popular with Canadian viewers, according to data from Parrot Analytics. The series has largely remained in the top 10 in-demand series in Canada this year, peaking in February.

Slice’s new acquisition comes as Corus Entertainment prepares to revamp its specialty offerings in the winter, following the loss of brands such as HGTV, the Food Network and Magnolia Network due to the end of its trademark and content deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. The rights were picked up by Rogers Communications.

Details on rebranded lifestyle channels from Corus are expected to be announced in the fall.
