Trevor Cameron embarks on scripted film debut with #Vanlife

The psychological thriller will film entirely on an LED virtual production wall in Regina.

Documentary filmmaker Trevor Cameron is revving up for his debut scripted feature, #Vanlife.

Principal photography will begin in Regina on Thursday (Aug. 15), and the project will be shot entirely inside the Karma Film and Volume Global virtual studio at the John Hopkins Regina Soundstage.  Filming is expected to wrap on Sept. 11.

Written and directed by Cameron, a television scribe and Métis filmmaker who directed the doc feature Shadow of Dumont, #Vanlife is a psychological horror-thriller that follows the descent of young social media influencers lured into a violent cult.

The project stars Michelle Thrush (Bones of Crows), Justin Derickson (Monster High), Dakota Ray Hebert (Run Woman Run), Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) and Joel Montgrand (True Detective).

“At its heart, #Vanlife is a film that focuses on the dread of identity, trauma, and cults, it also throws a spotlight on the Indigenous population that is hidden in the mainstream,” said Cameron in a statement.

#Vanlife is produced by Anand Ramayya and Kelly Balon of Karma Film , Juliette Hagopian for Winnipeg-based Julijette and Doug Cuthand for Blue Hill Productions. The film’s executive producers include David Cormican under his Toronto-based Fun Republic Pictures banner, and Volume Global’s Christopher Rush Harrington and Michael Hamilton-Wright.

#Vanlife is produced in association with APTN, the Indigenous Screen Office, Creative Saskatchewan and Manitoba Film & Music. International sales for the title are being handled by Screen Wizards Pictures and Palatin Media GmbH.
