CMPA announces 2024 Indiescreen Awards nominees

The winners for the Established Producer Award and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award will be announced on Sept. 12 at the Atlantic International Film Festival.

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) has announced the nominees for its annual Indiescreen Awards, which honour the work of Canadian independent film producers.

The Established Producer Award recognizes a producer’s, or a production team’s, work over their film career. The winner also receives a prize of $20,000.

This year’s nominees are Aeschylus Poulos (Hawkeye Pictures) for the drama Paying for It; Alison Duke (OYA Media Group, Goldelox Productions) for the documentary Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story; Kyle Irving, Lisa Meeches and Rebecca Gibson (Eagle Vision) for the action-comedy film Deaner ’89; Maria-Claude Poulin (Sphere Media) for the comedy 1995; and Martin Katz (Prospero Pictures) for the horror film The Shrouds.

The Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award recognizes a producer’s, or production team’s, early filmmaking accomplishments. The winner also receives a prize of $10,000.

This year’s nominees are Annick Blanc and Maria Gracia Turgeon (Midi La Nuit) for the thriller Hunting Daze; Enrique Miguel Baniqued and Karen Chapman (Explorers, Smallaxx Motion Pictures) for the drama Village Keeper; Julie Baldassi (Younger Daughter Films) for the drama Darkest Miriam; Mike Johnston (Studio 104 Entertainment) for the documentary Curl Power; and Ngardy Conteh George (OYA Media Group) for the documentary A Mother Apart.

The CMPA will hold the 2024 Indiescreen Awards at the Atlantic International Film Festival. The ceremony will take place at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sept. 12 and is presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada.
