The Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) has selected seven projects as part of its emerging creation assistance program.
The program is meant to support mentoring and networking activities for emerging creatives from eligible Quebec companies or professional associations in the audiovisual sector.
The projects selected include the NAWAL Association’s Mentoring Program Volume, which is intended for emerging Quebec filmmakers from North Africa and West Asia. It includes mentoring throughout the writing period, workshops in screenwriting, production and workshops on project financing. The program ends with a public pitch event and a networking activity with producers that will take place during a film festival in Montreal.
The Coop Spira’s Creative Laboratories – Phase 2 promotes the development of emerging female filmmakers, primarily in documentary. At the end of this laboratory, the emerging artists each produce a short documentary film of approximately 10 minutes.
Never Was Average Productions’ Creators Like No Other is a project for Black creators with atypical backgrounds in the Quebec film sector. During this program 10 people receive nine months of professional support in script development, direction, production, as well as an introduction to the monetization of intellectual property.
The Makila, Solidarity Cooperative’s Inkubateur: Mentoring, Pitch Cuban Hat and Pro Meetings 2024-2025 program supports the professionalization of emerging artists, mainly from underrepresented communities.
The participants in Paraloeil’s Emerging Screenwriters: Spotlight on Regional Independent Documentary Cinema will get a three-day intensive training program led by seasoned mentor Jean-François Lesage.
During Social T’s Catapult Mentoring Program, eight emerging filmmakers will be offered the opportunity to produce their first project, whether it is a fiction or a documentary.
Rounding out the selected programs is Terre Innue, which offers mentoring activities to four emerging Indigenous creators to support their professionalization and the development of their film project through individual and group mentoring sessions.
