Vice Studios Canada adds to ‘Dark Side’ franchise

The doc special goes behind the scenes with some of the reality genre's most well-known characters.

Vice TV has unveiled the latest installment of its Dark Side franchise, Dark Side of Reality TV.

The special aims to do a deep dive behind the scenes of the reality genre to “paint a realer version of the reality world”, including interviews with plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow (Botched), former Trump White House staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman (The Apprentice), and Vicki Gunvalson (The Real Housewives of Orange County). It is slated to premiere on Sept. 3.

The series is executive produced by Matthew Ginsburg and Tim Healy for Railsplitter Pictures, Rosie Taylor and Guillermo Garcia for Vice Studios Canada, and Meghan Payne for Vice TV. Alex McIntosh serves as the showrunner.

Vice Studios Canada, a Vice Studios Group company, has produced a number of series in the franchise including Dark Side of the Ring and Dark Side of Comedy, which were both picked up by Bell Media streamer Crave.

Dark Side of Reality TV is a natural extension for the Dark Side franchise. We’re extremely excited to launch this as the latest iteration in our Dark Side franchise at a time when the genre’s influence is more pervasive than ever,” said Peter Gaffney, Vice Media’s interim president, global TV, in a statement.
