Ontario and L.A.-based virtual production stage operator and content studio Volume Global, along with Miami’s Claxson Media and Navajo Entertainment, are set to produce six-part sci-fi drama Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime.
Canadian writers David Cormican (pictured; Tokyo Trial) and Dwayne Hill (Northern Rescue) have been tapped to co-showrun and executive produce the freshman drama, which will shoot in Canada at the end of the year. Details of the filming locations will be announced at a later date.
The series is based on the Venus Prime book series written by author Paul Preuss, which are in turn based on incidents characters, and places from Clarke’s short stories. Preuss has been retained by the producers as a consultant on the series.
The series, developed for television by Vivo Garcia Lagos, Hill and Cormican, will be a Navajo Entertainment production, in association with Claxson, Washington Square Entertainment, Munich’s Palatin Media, Winnipeg’s Julijette, Saskatoon, Sask.’s Karma Film, Toronto’s Fun Republic Pictures and Volume Global.
Series producers include Cormican, Karma Film’s Anand Ramayya (Our Big Punjabi Family) and Julijette’s Juliette Hagopian (The Girl Who Escaped: The Kara Robinson Story).
Executive producers include Cormican and Hall, as well as Volume Global’s Christopher Rush Harrington and Michael Hamilton-Wright, Claxson’s Roberto Vivo and Bernd Schlötterer of Palatin Media. Palatin will handle international sales rights for all territories worldwide, excluding Latin American rights, which will be retained by Claxson.
Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation) has boarded the series as executive producer and will direct all six episodes. “When the materials for Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime were presented to me, I couldn’t help but devour them,” said Frakes in a statement.
“Bringing Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime to audiences is a huge privilege and responsibility,” added Garcia Lagos. “By uniting the collective talents of Preuss, Cormican and Hill with Jonathan Frakes at the helm, we are confident we have assembled the perfect team to realize the cinematic vision we all share for this iconic property.”
