Lapaire Productions is bringing back its award-winning animated web series peopleWatching with the help of Cutting Class Media and North Bay, Ont.’s Lakeside Animation.
The prodco is now in production on a nine-episode third season of the series, which is slated to be completed in November. Episode lengths run from 11 to 15 minutes. Cutting Class and Lakeside are attached as producing partners and distributors.
The series is written and directed by Winston Rowntree. Geoff Lapaire serves as supervising producer and executive producer. Other EPs include Cutting Class execs Bracken Burns (who also voices a character in the series), Josh Bowen and Carly Sacks, and Lakeside’s Iouri Stepanov.
peopleWatching presents a series of short stories about romance and acceptance within a group of 30-somethings who feel stuck in limbo between childhood and adulthood.
The voice cast includes Burns, Hannan Younis, Emerina Perez, Jon Blair, Natalia Bushnik, Julius Cho, Jonathan Langdon, Kate Conway, Harrison Browne, Scott Garland and Christian Bellsmith.
Production for season three of peopleWatching is supported by the Canada Media Fund, Ontario Creates and the Telus Fund.
Season one of peopleWatching debuted in 2017 and won Best Web Program or Series, Fiction at the Canadian Screen Awards. A second season debuted in 2018. The series was available in the U.S. via Cracked and on CBC Gem in Canada.
