The Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) has selected eight series for its television production assistance program for enhancing a project’s production value.
The program is aimed at boosting the market value of Quebec-owned IP and its competitiveness internationally.
Series selected for financial support include season two of the Crave original Bon matin Chuck (ou l’art de réduire les méfaits; St-Laurent TV), written by Jean-François Rivard, Nicolas Pinson and Mathieu Cyr and directed by Rivard and Cyr, with Cineflix Rights distributing.
There are two other Bell Media titles: season three of the comedy Complètement lycée (Productions J) for Crave and Noovo, written by Charles-Alex Durand and Sandrine Viger-Beaulieu and directed by Marc-Olivier Valiquette, with Aroma-TV attached as distributor; and season two of the Crave original sketch comedy L’aréna (Entourage-L’Aréna), written by Jean-François Provençal, Sébastien Ravary, Julien Pelletier, Justine Philie and Alexina Gilbert and directed by Sébastien Gagné, with Entourage distributing.
The selected series also include the Télé-Québec project Rouge forêt (Urbania), whose writers include Alexandre Gauthier, Erika Mathieu, Marie-Frédérique Laberge-Milot, Pascale Bilodeau, Marie-Hélène Lapierre, Yannick Éthier, Stéphanie Labbé and Jean-Philippe Cauchon. The series is directed by Charles Grenie, with Encore attached as distributor.
The second seasons of Unis TV’s drama Fem (Ugo Média) and TVA’s Sorcières (Amalga Créations) are also among the selected projects.
Fem is written by Maxime Beauchamp, Kristine Metz and Charles Dionne, and directed by Marianne Farley, with KO Distribution distributing.
Sorcières is written by Marie-Josée Ouellet and Germain Larochelle and directed by Sarah Pellerin, Ian Lagarde, Jean-Carl Boucher and Myriam Verreault. TVA Films is the distributor.
Rounding out the list of projects are two animated series, L’académie des Monarques (CarpeDiem) for SRC, CBC, TFO; and season three of Les dragouilles (Happy Camper Media) for SRC and TFO.
L’académie des Monarques is written by Lienne Sawatsky and Heidi Foss and directed by Sophie Roy, with Pink Parrot Media distributing.
Les dragouilles is written by Robin Balzano and Karine Gottot and directed by Marie-Émilie Rowe. Happy Camper is also distributing.
