Director Érik Canuel, known for such films as the comedy feature Bon Cop, Bad Cop, has died at 63.
Canuel, who had been battling multiple myeloma for more than seven years, died of secondary plasma cell leukemia on Saturday (June 15), according to a news release by Annexe.
Canuel’s works also include the films La Loi du Cochon, Nez Rouge, Le Survenant and Le Dernier Tunnel. His television credits include CTV’s Transplant, Flashpoint, and Ransom, which aired on Global in Canada, CBS in the U.S., TF1 in France and Universal TV in the U.K., and The Hunger, among others.
The 2006 bilingual Bon Cop, Bad Cop, produced by Kevin Tierney and starring Colm Feore and Patrick Huard, went on to become one of Canadian cinema’s highest-grossing films, raking in more than $12 million.
Paying tribute to Canuel, Telefilm Canada wrote in a post on X that his “works will continue to leave an indelible mark on our Cinema.”
A ceremony will be held to honor Canuel’s legacy, with details to be soon made public, according to a news release.
