More than 700 animators at ICON Creative Studios, producers of projects like Monsters at Work, Ariel, Charlie the Wonderdog and The Search for Wondla, have joined The Canadian Animation Guild, IATSE Local 938. They are the fourth studio to sign on in British Columbia, joining members from Titmouse Vancouver, Kickstart and WildBrain.
With over 700 employees, ICON is one of the largest animation studios in Vancouver.
“The path to better working conditions is clear; organizing and forming unions ensures that these workers will have a say in their working conditions,” stated IATSE International President Matthew Loeb. “The IATSE has a long and proud history of representing animation workers, a tradition we look forward to maintaining with workers from ICON.”
Now that the union has been formed, workers at ICON Creative Studios will begin the bargaining process.
