M ontreal prodco Rezolution Pictures has launched an animation division, bringing in industry veteran Delna Bhesania to lead.
As head of animation, Bhesania has been tasked with sourcing creative talent to create global projects with engaging stories for international audiences. The appointment was announced by Rezolution president Archita Ghosh, with co-founders Ernest Webb and Catherine Bainbridge on Friday (June 7). Bhesania assumed the role on April 8.
Bhesania (pictured left) will join Ghosh (pictured right) at the upcoming Annecy Animation International Film Festival and Market to seek out partnerships and collaborations. The two execs are part of the Telefilm Canada panel at the festival, titled Innovation Animation Approaches: Doing it Differently in Canada.
Bhesania, the founder and former CEO of Vancouver-headquartered animation studio Bardel Entertainment, has 35 years of experience in animation, working with studios such as Dreamworks, Warner Bros., Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.
Her credits as executive producer include Netflix’s The Dragon Prince and Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, for which she won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the “Pickle Rick” episode.
“I know that Rezolution has been advancing the narrative when it comes to diversity and representation in the entertainment landscape for over 20 years in documentaries and series, and I look forward to working with Archita to do the same in animation,” said Bhesania in a statement.
Rezolution’s roster of works include the Canadian Screen Awards-winning Crave and APTN lumi limited series Little Bird and documentary Coming Home (Wanna Icipus Kupi), the Emmy-nominated Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World, the Gemini- and Peabody-winning Reel Injun, among others.
