Gloria Mercer’s debut feature A Safe Distance wraps filming

The thriller is produced by Vancouver-based naltobel productions and See Horse Films.

Production has wrapped in Vancouver on Gloria Mercer’s debut feature, A Safe Distance.

Principal photography on the thriller took place in Vancouver and surrounding areas before wrapping on Monday (June 3). The film is tentatively slated for an early 2025 release, according to a spokesperson for the production team.

A Safe Distance is directed by Mercer and written by Aidan West, who are also producing under their See Horse Films banner alongside naltobel productions’ Nic Altobelli.

The film centres on a woman who gets caught up with a couple on the run from the law after being abandoned in the B.C. wilderness. It is described as a “feminist-millennial-angst” take on the classic Bonnie and Clyde tale.

The cast includes Bethany Brown, Cody Kearsley, Chris McNally and Tandia Mercedes Feagan. Kris Wozensky and Kara Eide are the casting directors.

A Safe Distance is based on Mercer’s 2021 short of the same name but the “story and tone has changed quite a bit since,” said the spokesperson.

The film was produced with the support of Canada Council for the Arts and Creative BC.
