Tubi commissions The QB Bad Boy and Me from GPM

The feature is directed by Toronto's Justin Wu, with a screenplay adapted from the Wattpad novel by Tay Marley.

Fox-owned ad-supported streaming service Tubi has commissioned an original feature The QB Bad Boy and Me from Thunderbird Entertainment’s Great Pacific Media (GPM).

The coming-of-age romance is directed by Toronto’s Justin Wu and based on the Wattpad novel by Tay Marley. The film is co-written by Mary Gulino and Crystal Ferreiro.

Principal photography will get underway in Victoria, B.C., on May 29, with the film slated to release within the next year, according to a news release.

Producers include Adam Wescott, McKenna Marshall and Wattpad Webtoon Studios’ Aron Levitz and Lindsey Ramey. David Madden is executive producing for Wattpad Webtoon and Lindsay Macadam, David Way and Tony Chung are executive producing for Vancouver-based GPM, which will finance the project.

The QB Bad Boy and Me centres on a dancer who dreams of going to a top dance school, but sees her life and plans derailed when a football star crashes into her life. The film stars Siena Agudong, Noah Beck and Drew Ray Tanner.

L.A.-based distributor Blue Fox Entertainment is handling international sales rights for the film.

GPM previously adapted Gina Musa’s Wattpad novel Boot Camp, with Wattpad Webtoon Studios handling global sales and distribution outside of Canada.
