M ontreal-based prodcos Attraction and Sovimage have won the Association québécoise de la production médiatique’s (AQPM) annual company of the year award.
Attraction (Le temps d’un été) won the award in the cinema category. Sovimage (Avant le crash, L’empereur) was recognized in the television category.
The awards were presented at the 24th annual AQPM conference in Montreal on Tuesday (April 23).
Director Louise Archambault’s Le temps d’un été (pictured) generated revenues of $2.3 million at the box office, according to a statement by Attraction. The film was recognized as Playback‘s French-language Film of the Year 2023.
Films by Attraction also include Sébastien Gagne’s youth feature Coco Ferme, which was coproduced with La Fête.
Last year, Attraction inked a first-look deal with Netflix under which the prodco will develop and produce original French-language films. A doc on the Montreal Expos baseball franchise is the first project commissioned under the deal.
Art et essai producer Jeanne-Marie Poulain and Happy Camper Média president and executive producer Renaud Sylvain were also honoured as joint winners of the AQPM Vincent-Gabriele Emerging Award.
The award recognizes creatives for their leadership and creativity, and for their innovative multi-platform projects.
Poulain’s recent credits include Ariane Louis-Seize’s Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person, which picked up the Jean-Marc Vallée DGC Discovery Award and $25,000 WIFF Prize in Canadian Film at the Windsor International Film Festival, among other honours.
Sylvain’s credits include several animated children’s, series such as Radio-Canada’s Agent Jean, Mini-Jean et Mini-Bulle and ICI Tou.tv’s Les Dragouilles.
