Bell Media has pre-bought factual engineering series Building Bad from Toronto’s Shark Teeth Films.
The 10 x 60-minute series looks at what happens when scientists, inventors and engineers turn to the dark side – from the Italian Mafia’s assassination drones and Columbian cartels’ secret narco subs, to a network of New York City heroin processing labs and the ingenious escape routes in Pablo Escobar’s Hacienda and Catêdral hideouts.
Cineflix Rights has acquired the rights to distribute the series worldwide. The season is meant to be the first of a new factual franchise from Shark Teeth, according to a news release.
Production is already underway for a fall delivery. Executive producers are Adrian Carter and Tom Mudd for Shark Teeth Films, and Felicia Litovitz and Richard Life for Cineflix Rights.
“The Shark Teeth team has a great track record of producing high quality content appealing to a wide demographic,” said Litovitz, VP of acquisitions, North America, at Cineflix Rights, in a statement. “We’ve already had great success with their previous series Mysterious Islands, so we’re thrilled to be building on our partnership with them to turn another Canadian show into an international hit.”
