The Pacific Screenwriting Program (PSP) has announced the 2024 Scripted Series Lab participants.
This year, six B.C.-based screenwriters are led by showrunner-in-residence Michael MacLennan (Bomb Girls, Tiny Pretty Things) in a 10-week writers room to develop an original series.
The program began in January and wraps next week with a showcase at the Vancouver Scripted Summit on April 18.
Steered by MacLennan, this year’s cohort includes Alex Vance, Gur-Inder Singh, Helene Taylor, Jimmy King, Melissa Zhēn Zhū Riemer and Ren Maguire.
In addition to writers room experience, participants received script mentoring on their original pilots, and engaged in workshops and information sessions with industry leaders to help them evolve their skills and build careers in B.C.’s industry.
The Scripted Series Lab is supported by Netflix, Creative BC, the Canada Media Fund, the CMPA BC Producers Branch and the Vancouver International Film Festival.
Many past participants are working in rooms for current B.C.-shot series, including Global’s Family Law, CBC’s Allegiance, Fox and Global’s Murder in a Small Town, CBC’s Wild Cards and CTV’s Sight Unseen, according to a press release.
