First World War pilot Ghosts Have Warm Hands films in Toronto

Production on the pilot is taking place at the Immersion Room virtual production studio.

Production is underway in Toronto on the First World War web series pilot Ghosts Have Warm Hands.

Filming began on March 22 at the Immersion Room virtual production studio and wraps on April 22, according to a news release.

Ghosts Have Warm Hands is directed by Peter Williamson and marks the first project from his Toronto-based prodco Pale Gleams. John Whitcher wrote the screenplay, which is based on the memoir of the same name by Canadian First World War veteran and novelist, Will R. Bird. Whitcher and Leanne Brennan are co-producers, while Williamson serves as executive producer.

In his memoir, Bird wrote about spending two years on the Western Front as a soldier in the Black Watch of Canada. The pilot episode brings to life his time in the trenches, where his experiences are both physical and ethereal.

Ghosts Have Warm Hands is financed by Pale Gleams and will be shopped to buyers before a full series is made, according to a spokesperson for Pale Gleams.

Williamson said in a statement that virtual production has “allowed us to bring the desolation of the landscape following the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge to life in a way that would not have been possible using traditional production methods.”
