Telefilm hires Monica Flores for governmental affairs role

Flores assumes the title of VP of governmental affairs and communications on April 8.

Telefilm Canada has appointed Monica Flores as VP of governmental affairs and communications.

Flores is based in Montreal and assumes the role on Monday (April 8), according to a news release. She reports to executive director and CEO Julie Roy.

The dual government affairs and communications rule will see Flores contribute to the implementation of the funding body’s new strategic plan, and lead a team committed to promoting the audiovisual sector to a variety of audiences.

Flores has more than two decades of leadership experience, including serving as secretary general of the International Women’s Forum (Montreal Chapter) and co-founding the Latin American Executive Women in Canada Network. She is also a member of boards or executive committees with McGill University, Université de Montréal, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Foundation, École des hautes études commerciales (HEC) Foundation and Montreal Children’s Hospital.

An experienced executive, she has worked in more than 10 countries in her career, in fields such as healthcare, telecommunications, technology, fashion and the arts. Most recently, she led her own consulting firm, advising clients in communications, branding, public affairs and stakeholder relations.

Marie-Claude Lavigne most recently served as VP of government and public affairs before retiring from the role last year, according to a Telefilm spokesperson. SVP, program strategy and industry development Francesca Accinelli previously held the title of VP of promotions, communications and international relations.
