Icarus Capital, Yuk Yuk’s partner on content, production venture

Yuk Yuk's Media will develop and produce stand-up comedy shows and unscripted/documentary titles, with Eric Y. Lapointe as head of content.

Vancouver’s Icarus Capital Corporation and Yuk Yuk’s International Stand-Up Comedy have joined forces to create a new content development and production venture, titled Yuk Yuk’s Media.

The new entity will develop traditional and digital stand-up comedy shows, unscripted competitions and documentaries, with its initial project slate to be unveiled at the Banff World Media Festival in June.

Icarus Capital COO Eric Y. Lapointe (pictured) has been tapped as head of content for the entity. He previously held roles at Global Mechanic Media, Just For Laughs and Cirque du Soleil. Icarus Capital CEO Garry Yuill will serve as executive producer.

The first project to go to camera will be shot at Vancouver’s Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre on April 20 as part of the ongoing “South Van Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Night” theatre show series. It will screen on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms, as well as Yuk Yuk’s Media’s own branded and digital channels, according to a news release.

“After having cultivated comedy clubs in B.C. and Calgary, and recently establishing theatrical experiences across the B.C. lower mainland, our new capital company is now ready for a much larger challenge to help launch Yuk Yuk’s Media,” said Yuill in a statement. “Meanwhile, we’ve recognized the unparalleled potential of theatres for capturing high-quality digital short-form content.”

Mark Breslin, founder and CEO of Yuk Yuk’s, added: “While our company has a storied history of award-winning productions, the timing felt ripe to establish a dedicated media arm. The vision presented by Garry and Eric resonated deeply with us, offering an exciting opportunity to embark on this new chapter together.”
