War drama Breakthrough rolls in Prince George

The film is directed and produced by B.C.'s Kate Green and depicts an unlikely friendship between soldiers from opposing sides in the Second World War.

Filming began last week in Prince George, B.C. on Kate Green’s Second World War film Breakthrough.

Set in the Ardennes forest, the film tells the story of a wounded Jewish American soldier and a young German boy soldier, who form an unlikely friendship while trapped together in a foxhole.

Breakthrough is being produced by Norm Coyne of Prince George-based Barker Street Cinema, while Green directs and produces through Vancouver’s Kate Green Productions.

The project is written by and stars Michael John Fuller (Dunkirk), who is also a Second World War military historian and serves as technical advisor. The cast includes Riley Banzer, Aiden Smith, Kelly McCabe and Aaron Haegert.

Breakthrough has a budget of $135,000 and was privately funded. Production took place primarily in a rural location outside of Prince George and will conclude in a second location in the province in the months to come.

The region will be home to additional projects over the next few years, including another project from Barker Street Cinema.
