France Televisions has acquired the Club Illico drama series About Antoine from Amuz Distribution.
The series is created by Cathleen Rouleau and produced by Amuz Distribution’s parent company ComediHa! Productions. It will launch on public broadcaster France Televisions’ digital platform France.tv in spring, according to a news release.
About Antoine follows the story of a woman who becomes a stepmom to a child with multiple disabilities. It premiered on Club Illico in January 2023, and has picked up several honours to date, including the MIPCOM Diversify TV Award for Representation of Disability in a Scripted Series and the Best Francophone Foreign Fiction award at France’s Festival de la Fiction.
The series also picked up the Best Supporting Role in a Comedy award for Micheline Bernard at Montreal’s Prix Gémeaux, and earned a Young Artists Academy Awards nomination for Edouard-B Larocque.
Catherine Gaucher, manager of international fiction, coproductions and acquisitions at France.tv, said in a statement that the series will be part of the network’s World Autism Awareness Day programming, noting that About Antoine “deals with this subject with sincerity, accuracy but also with humour.”
Alex Avon, VP of global distribution at Amuz Distribution, added: “This heart-felt show is sure be loved by French audiences as it has been in Canada.”
