Canada’s gun-slinging heroine is back in action.
Wynonna Earp, the western horror series from creator Emily Andras, is returning in the form of a 90-minute special, tentatively titled Wynonna Earp – Vengeance, commissioned by Fox-owned AVOD Tubi for the U.S.
The special is produced by SEVEN24 Films in association with Cineflix Studios and will be directed by Paolo Barzman, with production to begin in Calgary later this month. It was first announced by Vanity Fair.
The Canadian broadcast partner will be announced at a later date, a spokesperson for SEVEN24 Films told Playback Daily.
Wynonna Earp ran for four seasons from 2016 to 2021, and followed the trials and tribulations of the titular character – a descendant of the legendary gunman Wyatt Earp – as she battled demons in the town of Purgatory.
The series is based on the global novel by U.S. comic book writer Beau Smith, published by IDW Publishing.
Executive producers on Wynonna Earp – Vengeance are Andras, Jordy Randall and Tom Cox for SEVEN24 Films, Peter Emerson and Brett Burlock for Cineflix Studios, and Todd Berger and Rick Jacobs.
Returning cast members include Melanie Scrofano (Letterkenny), Tim Rozon (SurrealEstate), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Like a House on Fire) and Katherine Barrell (Good Witch).
Wynonna Earp – Vengeance marks the second time the series has staged a grand return.
Production on the series’ fourth season went on an indefinite hiatus in February 2019, eventually resuming later that year with Crave and Cineflix Studios signing on as producing partners, and Cineflix Rights taking on international sales. The distributor will also handle rights for the special.
The end of the production delay was aided by a massive campaign from its fan base, which included the use of billboards in Times Square in New York City with the campaign slogan #FightForWynonna.
