Vancouver-based Great Pacific Media (a Thunderbird Entertainment Group company) is partnering with the World Boxing Council (WBC) and its president, Mauricio Sulaimán, on a new docuseries that will take viewers behind the scenes and into the ring with a number of the WBC’s current champions and rising stars.
Prizefighter (w/t) is being directed by Tony Vainuku, who previously co-helmed the Netflix titles Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators and Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist. Preliminary filming is currently underway in Las Vegas.
The series is executive produced by Great Pacific Media’s David Way, alongside Vainuku, WBC’s Sulaimán, Lindsay Macadam, Michael Francis, Kyle Hou and Tim Thom.
Prizefighter will offer an exclusive, in-depth look at the intensive training and dedication that some of today’s top fighters bring to their craft, as well as their triumphs and challenges outside the squared circle.
Founded in 1963, the WBC is one of the four globally recognized sanctioning bodies in the sport, with champions across 18 weight classes. Current holders of WBC belts include such major names as Tyson Fury (heavyweight) Saul “Canelo” Álvarez (super middleweight), Jermall Charlo (middleweight, pictured), Terence Crawford (welterweight), and Naoya Inoue (super bantamweight).
