Sinking Ship partners with Telus on media literacy series

Media Stamped is created by Nicole Stamp and directed by J.J. Johnson.

Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE) has secured the greenlight for its new kids’ media literacy series, Media Stamped, from Telus independent, a pilot feature doc and limited series program funded by Telus Communications.

Hosted by creator and writer Nicole Stamp, the show is aimed at helping nine- to 12-year-olds navigate the complexities of media. SSE partner J.J. Johnson serves as director and executive producer.

Media Stamped is created in partnership with international advocacy organization Global Citizen, and with the support of the Shaw Rocket Fund. It’s set to begin production in the spring, with SSE handling international distribution.

The series marks the first time Telus has ventured into children’s documentary programming, according to a news release. It will air on Telus TV+ and Telus Optik VOD later this year.

Media Stamped adopts a magazine-style format to explore media literacy using humour and pop-culture references. Each episode serves as an educational guide, teaching kids to critically analyze media content, understand biases and identify fake news across various platforms.

Stamp began her career as a host, director and writer on 10 seasons of the live educational show TVOKids (TVO). She has also written for The Snoopy Show (Apple TV+), hosted the classic game show Reach For The Top (TVO), and wrote and directed Sinking Ship’s Lockdown (YouTube Originals), which was nominated for a Writers Guild Award and three Canadian Screen Awards.
