Cyber-punk thriller Nobel and the Kid kicks off in North Bay

The revenge thriller from Other Animal Entertainment marks the feature debut of director James Anthony Usas.

Canadian indie Other Animal Entertainment (Poor Agnes, Happy FKN Sunshine) has commenced principal photography on its latest venture, Nobel and the Kid.

The cyber-punk odyssey will be shot on-location in North Bay, Ont., as well as on virtual sets, and is set to wrap on Friday (Dec. 22). VFX work will be provided by North Bay’s Lakeside Animation.

James Anthony Usas (Star Trek: Discovery, Beacon 23), an art department veteran, makes his directorial debut with the film, and the story and characters are created by executive producer Jonathan Hlibka, according to a news release.

Athena Park (Holly Hobbie) stars as titular character The Kid, who is rescued by Nobel (played by Josh Bainbridge) when her father is murdered, and she recruits him on her revenge quest. Lora Burke (For the Sake of Vicious) is also part of the cast.

Nobel and the Kid is produced by Ryan Keller. Partial financing for the project comes from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), with Other Animal handling worldwide sales for the feature.
