A MI-tv has greenlit the satirical series The Squeaky Wheel: Canada for broadcast and streaming in 2024.
The 8 x 30-minute series is produced by Toronto’s Hitsby Entertainment, which was founded by former Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) content exec Andrew Morris, and is based on the online publication The Squeaky Wheel from Stephen Verdile, which focuses on the experience of having a disability.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Hamilton, Ont. next month. The team includes co-directors Lucy Belgum (The Fixer) and Tobi Abdul (The Great Canadian Baking Show), and stars Graham Kent and Gaitrie Persaud as its lead anchors. The cast also includes Margaret Rose, Samantha Wyss, Sivert Gorachand Das, Wesley Magee-Saxton and Yousef Abdullah Kadoura.
The show’s writers are D. Cole, Daniel BarraBerger, Jenny Lee-Gilmore and Sierra Haynes, while Michelle Asgarali is the series producer.
“I look forward to seeing where this talented group of performers, writers and producers from the disability community takes us,” said Verdile in a statement.
“It’s rare to get such a well-written comedy about disabilities,” added Belgum, while Abdul said they were “thrilled to bring a disruptive internet publication to life and shake up the media landscape.”
