Vancouver-headquartered LGBTQ+ television network and streaming service OUTtv has commissioned two documentary one-offs and a three-part docuseries.
The one-offs include Our Gay Family (1 x 90 minutes) from Toronto-headquartered Firestarter Productions, which follows a family with three generations of gay women, from their early 20s to mid-50s. The doc will be part of the network’s “OUTspoken” documentary strand.
The other one-off coming to the OUTtv slate is Escape to Paradise (1 x 45 minutes), which follows Filipino-American drag queen and reality television personality Manila Luzon on a summer day in Fire Island. It’s produced by the U.S.-based Producer Entertainment Group.
Also coming to OUTtv is the 3 x 40-minute docuseries The Last American Gay Bar, produced by Kristian Day Media and Daylite Pictures, which examines the rise and fall of gay bars in America through the eyes of three red state establishments.
“Documentaries are a hugely important part of our programming slate as they support our core values of telling the true stories of the LGBTQ+ community, and continue to be popular with our audiences all over the world,” said OUTtv COO Philip Webb in a statement. “These projects spotlight a multiplicity of queer experiences — from the importance of vibrant night life and spaces to host it, to an intimate portrait of a family across generations.”
