A PTN’s streaming platform lumi has set a festival debut for two of its original series.
Both Tales from the Rez and D dot H will make their debut at the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival on Oct. 20, the same day they will launch on lumi.
D dot H (pictured) is a sci-fi dramedy led by writer, director, producer and star Meegwun Fairbrother, and it follows two misfits (portrayed by Fairbrother and fellow producer Sarah Koehn) who join an interdimensional crew to take down a villain, played by director Mary Galloway. The series’ team also includes writer and producer Stephen Ground and producer Tyson Caron.
Tales from the Rez is a 6 x 15-minute horror-comedy anthology created by Blackfoot filmmaker Trevor Solway and produced by Colin Van Loon of Blackfoot Nation Films. The series was filmed in Siksika, Alta., last year with financial support from the Bell Fund and the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO).
The series features screen adaptations of well-known Blackfoot urban legends, which are introduced to the audience by Uncle Randalf, an Elder who has “one foot in the living world and one foot in the spirit world.”
“APTN lumi strives to provide a platform where Indigenous creators can share their biggest and boldest ideas with digital audiences across the country,” said Lisa Ducharme, director of online content at APTN, in a statement. “Series like Tales from the Rez and D dot H really exemplify this commitment. They represent the breadth and depth of Indigenous creativity, while offering stories that resonate with our viewers.”
A number of APTN lumi originals have been pitched at imagineNATIVE as part of the annual the imagineNATIVE + APTN lumi Web Series Pitch, including Tales from the Rez, Querencia and The Feather News.
ImagineNATIVE runs in-person in Toronto from Oct. 17 to 22, followed by a virtual run from Oct. 23 to 29.
