The team behind the mockumentary Faking a Murderer has commenced production on a paranormal follow-up, titled Don’t F**ck With Ghosts.
The “metaphysical documentary” is written, directed and produced by Toronto-based 5’7 Films’ Stu Stone and Adam Rodness, who reprise their Faking a Murderer personas to investigate a haunted house, according to a news release.
Principal photography is now underway in Winnipeg and will continue through October, and is an interprovincial coproduction between 5’7 Films and Winnipeg’s Farpoint Films. Robb Wells (The Trailer Park Boys) is set to make a cameo appearance.
The film is part of a multi-picture slate deal with Hollywood Suite, with levelFILM on board as the distributor. It is scheduled for a 2024 release. The film’s executive producers include Farpoint’s Kyle Bornais, as well as Kent Sobey, Ryan Kimel and Ira Levy.
Faking a Murderer was a 2020 true-crime mockumentary that saw Stone and Rodness fake an investigation into a supposed murderer, played by Tony Nappo.
Don’t F**ck With Ghosts marks the first title announced under 5’7 Films’ deal with Hollywood Suite. The prodco has previously worked with levelFILM on the feature Jack of All Trades, which has been sold to Netflix for release in North America, said the release.
“This is definitely the highlight of our career thus far,” said Rodness and Stone in a statement. “We are so thrilled that we get the opportunity to keep creating this hybrid franchise with Canadian partners like Hollywood Suite and levelFILM.”
