Play Media, the content division of Toronto and Vancouver-based talent agency Play Management, is in production on a new queer-led digital series for Shaftesbury’s YouTube channel KindaTV.
Stories From My Gay Grandparents (pictured) is a 10 x 10-minute series created by Scott Farley (The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy) and Perrie Voss (Avocado Toast), and produced by Play Media’s Andrew McCann Smith.
The series follows a seemingly heterosexual elderly couple who come to terms with their sexualities after a near death experience, and ask their grandchildren to help them learn how to navigate life out of the closet.
Production is currently underway in Toronto, with Playback 10 to Watch alum J Stevens on board as director, and will wrap within the next two weeks, according to a news release. The series is expected to debut on KindaTV in 2024, with additional partners to be announced at a later date.
Stories From My Gay Grandparents is produced with the support of the Bell Fund, Ontario Creates and the Independent Production Fund. Executive producers include Farley, Voss, and Play Management partners Vickie Petronio-King, Trina Allen and Lena Lees-Heidt.
The series cast includes James Kall (Come From Away), Jane Moffat (Backstage), Jo Vannicola (Being Erica), Tricia Black (Pretty Hard Cases) and Alexander Nunez (Moonshine).
“Stories From My Gay Grandparents is chock-full of big, bright, queer joy, and love, all within an oddball family who are re-determining what it means to be there for each other,” said Voss in a statement.
Voss and Stevens are represented by Play Management, and Farley is repped by The Characters Talent Agency.
