Deals: Thunderbird, Lopii Productions, Hollywood Suite

Thunderbird Distribution secures a raft of sales for Mittens & Pants, Lopii Productions partners with Bomanbridge to bring two series to MIPCOM, plus more.

Vancouver’s Thunderbird Distribution has closed sales for the first season of Mittens & Pants (pictured) across 34 territories.

Warner Bros. Discovery has picked up the 39 x 7-minute season for its Cartoonito, Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Elsewhere, France TV has acquired it for multiple regions, including France, Andorra, Monaco, French Guiana and New Caledonia. Hop! Channel (Israel) and DR Denmark (Denmark, Greenland and Faroe Islands) have also bought the season.

Mittens & Pants follows a puppy and kitten best-friend duo that live in a colourful, all-animal town called Kibble Corners. Producer Phil McCordic (Tumbletown Tales) created the series, which is notably filmed with real baby animals.

Toronto-based prodco Windy Isle Entertainment produces the preschool series, which debuted in February on CBC Kids in Canada and Sky Kids in the U.K.

Last year, Thunderbird Entertainment signed on to manage distribution and consumer products for the show in a move to grow its third-party distribution business.

Lopii Productions

Toronto’s Lopii Productions has partnered with Singapore-based distributor Bomanbridge Media to bring two of its projects to MIPCOM and MIPJunior in Cannes, France, in October.

Bomanbridge will launch global sales for the CBC Kids preschool series Bestest Day Ever with My Best Friend, about kids’ relationships with their pets, as well as the TVOKids and Knowledge Kids series Dream It to Be It, which explores how kids of all abilities have the chance to pursue their dreams.

Lopii previously partnered with Bomanbridge on distribution for the children’s docuseries My Stay-at-Home Diary, which was sold in French Canada, the U.S. and Asia, according to a news release. The company’s CSA-winning series The Fabulous Show with Fay and Fluffy will also be at the Cannes market, with Sinking Ship Entertainment repping sales.

MIPJunior runs from Oct. 13 to 15, and MIPCOM runs from Oct. 16 to 19.

Hollywood Suite

Canadian broadcaster Hollywood Suite will be the home for the broadcast premiere of Sonia Bonspille Boileau’s narrative feature Rustic Oracle. The 2019 film will make its broadcast debut on Sept. 30 as part of Hollywood Suite’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation programming.

Rustic Oracle is written and directed by Boileau and produced by Jason Brennan of Nish Media. It tells the story of an eight-year-old girl whose sister disappears from their small Mohawk community.

Additional films slated for Hollywood Suite’s full day of programming include Alanis Obomsawin’s documentary Incident at Restigouche (1984), the late Jeff Barnaby’s Rhymes for Young Ghouls (2013), Jeremy Torrie’s The Corruption of Divine Providence (2020), Zoe Leigh Hopkins’ Kayak to Klemtu (2018), Darlene Naponse’s Falls Around Her (2018) and the 2020 doc Every Child Matters: Reconciliation Through Education.
