Ohio-based distributor Gravitas Ventures has acquired U.S. rights to Canadian horror film Wintertide.
The film is directed by John Barnard, who wrote the script with Carrie-May Siggins and served as a producer alongside Winnipeg-based Farpoint Films president Kyle Bornais and Tony Wosk.
Filmed in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba, Wintertide sees a rural northern city fall victim to a plague that turns its citizens into zombie-like figures, with one woman’s dreams holding the key to immunity. The film stars Niamh Carolan (Elephant Sheets), Solange Sookram (Tales From The Loop) and Jesse Nobess (The Perfect Match).
Bornais negotiated the U.S. deal with Mackenzie Maguire, acquisitions coordinator at Gravitas. The film has also been acquired for India by Mumbai’s V R Films & Studios.
Gravitas, which is owned by Anthem Sports & Entertainment, previously picked up the musical feature The Swearing Jar from Bornais and Wosk, which the duo produced with Jane Loughman.
“After the great reception and acclaim The Swearing Jar received, we are excited to partner once again with the great team at Gravitas Ventures in bringing Wintertide to the U.S.,” said Bornais in a statement, adding that the company has a “track record and integrity that audiences trust.”
