W Network expands Love Club franchise with new films

The Corus-owned channel has greenlit another quartet of films from Toronto's Nikki Ray Media Agency.

Corus Entertainment’s W Network has commissioned a new quartet of MOWs based on The Love Club format from Toronto’s Nikki Ray Media Agency.

Lisa Godrey, SVP, original content at Corus Studios, confirmed Thursday (Aug. 17) that Corus has “made things official” with Nikki Ray to expand the franchise following the success of the original film series, which was sold to Hallmark Channel in the U.S.

The new films, collectively titled The Love Club Moms, are now in production in Hamilton, Ont., with filming scheduled to wrap in October. All four films are produced by Nikki Ray in association with Corus Studios, and with the participation of the Canada Media Fund.

The interconnected film format sees four women work together to solve each other’s romantic problems, with each character serving as the lead in their respective film. The new slate of movies features a group of four mothers “trying to find their happily ever after,” according to a news release.

The films are written by Barbara Kymlicka (who penned the original four Love Club films), directed by Alpha Nicky (Rush for Your Life) and Amy Force (Santa’s Got Style), and produced by Dominic Ewenson and David J. Phillips. Nikki Ray’s Mike Sheerin and Tanya Linton are executive producers.

The leads of the new films are Ashley Newbrough (Love in Glacier National: A National Park Romance), Rebecca Dalton (The Dog Lover’s Guide to Dating), Genelle Williams (Family Law), and Nazneen Contractor (Children Ruin Everything). Rounding out the cast are Ryan Bruce (Let Him Go), Corey Sevier (Take Me Back For Christmas), Mark Taylor (Beyond Black Beauty), and Joseph Cannata (A Perfect Match).

The Love Club Moms is expected to premiere on W Network in 2024. Corus Studios will handle international distribution.
