Todd Lubin named head of Boat Rocker Studios, unscripted

Lubin succeeds former unscripted president Jay Peterson, who will temporarily stay on as executive producer to help with the transition.

Boat Rocker Media has appointed veteran producer Todd Lubin as the new president of Boat Rocker Studios, unscripted, effective immediately.

In his new role, Lubin will lead the company’s unscripted efforts, including series and documentaries, and oversee Boat Rocker’s Matador Content, Maven and Proper Television production shingles.

Lubin will be based in L.A., and will report directly to David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, co-executive chairmen of Boat Rocker Media and co-chairmen of Boat Rocker Studios.

Formerly president and co-founder of Boat Rocker-owned Matador Content, Lubin will now take over from Jay Peterson, who is stepping down from the position. Peterson will remain as an executive producer with Boat Rocker for several months to support the transition and the delivery of current projects.

Co-founded by Lubin and Peterson in 2013, Matador was acquired by Boat Rocker in 2018 and has since produced such major unscripted projects as Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields (Hulu), Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry (Apple TV+), Lip Sync Battle (Paramount+) and Downey’s Dream Cars (Max).

Boat Rocker expanded the remits of its senior team in June as a way to streamline operations, which included naming Kerry Appleyard as the head of Boat Rocker Studios’ Canadian scripted content.
