Winnipeg-based production company Farpoint Films has kicked off production on its newest series, Ghosts Off Grid.
The 14 x 60-minute series is filming in Manitoba, across western Canada and in the U.S., with production wrapping in early 2024, according to a release.
Ghosts Off Grid is produced by Chris Charney and Scott Leary, and executive produced by Kyle Bornais. It will follow YouTube duo Johnny Wiebe and Jordyn Penner, known to their viewers as the Paranormies, as they investigate paranormal activity in the outdoors. There are no writers and directors announced as of press time, but Wiebe and Penner plan to helm a some episodes, as well as appear on screen.
Farpoint Films’ Charney said in a statement that “Johnny and Jordyn have the experience and passion to do something new in the paranormal space that hasn’t been done before.”
Added Penner: “Through the use of new, exclusive paranormal technology, we will be bursting through the astral plane on previously undiscovered results that people have never seen before.”
Weibe and Penner have been ghost hunting for more than a decade, and their YouTube channel currently has more than 114,000 subscribers.
“We are excited to partner with Farpoint Films and their amazing team who will help bring a wider audience to the work we’re doing,” adds Wiebe.
The show is financed by Super Channel and is part of the deal Farpoint Films signed this past January to provide 150 hours of scripted and unscripted shows over the next year to the channel. The first show in production under the agreement was Death of the Party (26 x 60 minutes), a true crime doc series that takes a look at mysterious murders linked to house parties, banquets, concerts, festivals and events. The second is another unscripted true crime series called An Hour to Kill, which delves deep into a homicide investigation.
Under the agreement, the partners have the option to extend for two more years at an additional 150 hours per year.
