Yes TV, Hollywood Suite to serve up Potluck Ladies

EXCLUSIVE: The channels have licensed the scripted series from creator and producer Shazia Javed, with production now underway.

Canadian channels Yes TV and Hollywood Suite have licensed “slice of life” series Potluck Ladies, which has begun principal photography in Toronto and Oakville, Ont., and will continue shooting through August.

The 4 x 30-minute scripted series comes from Shazia Javed (3 Seconds Divorce), who serves as creator, showrunner, producer, executive producer, director and writer.

Rahul Chaturvedi co-wrote the series with Javed, who produces under her Mississauga, Ont. banner LifeSketch Media. The supervising producer is Nicole McKechnie and the director of photography is Allen Liu.

Potluck Ladies is slated for release in early 2024 on Yes TV and Hollywood Suite. It stars Natasha Krishnan (Rabbit Hole), Elisa Moolecherry (Molly’s Game) and newcomers Kavita Musty and Alisha Camryn, and follows a trio of newly immigrated South Asian women navigating their unique challenges in life while becoming friends.

Financing for the series was provided in part by the Canada Media Fund through its Pilot Program for Racialized Communities.

Javed is the founder of LifeSketch Media, a production company focused on perspectives from historically marginalized communities, according to a news release. Her documentary, 3 Seconds Divorce, streamed globally on Netflix and won the Reelworld Audience Choice Award. She’s also an alum of Playback’s 10 to Watch.

“I have always wanted to centre the diversity of South-Asian Canadian women’s experiences,” said Javed in a statement. “With Potluck Ladies I have had an opportunity to do exactly that.”
