Trevor Bentley, co-founder of Atomic Cartoons, has left the company to set up a new service studio that will operate under the Toon City umbrella.
Bentley (pictured) serves as CEO of Toon City Vancouver, an offshoot of the original Philippines-based Toon City service studio that has done work for clients including Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and Nelvana, according to a news release issued Monday (July 10).
Under Bentley’s leadership, the Canadian shop will focus on servicing kids and family animation projects, and it will also help its parentco take on more work and explore coproduction opportunities,, according to a news release.
Bentley put in more than 20 years at Atomic Cartoons, overseeing animation service work on series such as Counterfeit Cat for Disney XD and PBS KIDS’ Molly of Denali. He also co-created the studio’s original series Atomic Betty. Atomic was acquired by Vancouver-based Thunderbird Entertainment in 2015.
Prior to co-founding Atomic in 1999, Bentley worked as an artist on kids and family series such as Ed, Edd and Eddy and Cat Dog.
Bentley is heading to Cartoon Forum in September to meet with potential clients and partners looking for a Canadian copro partner, said the release.
