Cineflix Studios has inked a first-look deal with December Films, kicking off the partnership with new series Carpe Demon for Paramount+ Canada.
As part of the agreement, Cineflix Studios will have the first option to coproduce original content developed by December Films. It also gives Cineflix Rights first-look international distribution rights to projects produced through the partnership, according to a press release.
The deal builds on the existing coproduction partnership between Cineflix Studios and December Films on Reginald the Vampire (pictured), which is also produced by Great Pacific Media and Modern Story Company, and was renewed for a second season by NBCUniversal network Syfy.
Peter Emerson, president, Cineflix Media, said in a statement that December Films has “an incredibly exciting development slate which we think has massive international potential.”
Genre series Carpe Demon (10 x 60 minutes) from Canadian showrunner Emily Andras is in development for Paramount+. Based on books by Julie Kenner, it follows the story of a suburban mom who is secretly a demon hunter.
December Films founders Julie Di Cresce and Todd Berger said Cineflix Studios’ “incredible support on Reginald the Vampire make this partnership an obvious fit. We share a mutual focus on strong market-driven creative that appeals to a global audience. We believe that we are well positioned to deliver high-quality content at the right price point for networks and streaming services around the world.”
December Films, which was formed in 2020 and operates out of Toronto, Vancouver and Venice Beach, Calif., currently has two feature film projects in post-production: Out Come the Wolves for IFC Films, Altitude Films and LevelFILM, and the romantic comedy Bootcamp.
Berger is also an executive producer on the Apple TV+ series Circuit Breakers and Miss Scarlet and the Duke (PBS and UKTV). He executive produced Wynonna Earp for Syfy and Bell Media, and Diggstown for CBC.
