Canadian-American showrunner Jon Cooksey has boarded a live-action TV adaptation of Titan1Studios’ video game Love is a Roguelite (LIAR).

Cooksey (Killjoys, The Collector) will serve as writer and executive producer on Wild Frontier (pictured), which is in development at Titan1Studios.

Rathan Moorthy, founder and CEO of the Toronto-based cross-media content and technology studio, and Wes Ambrecht, VP, content, will executive produce alongside Cooksey.

Wild Frontier is a sci-fi action-comedy series described as “a four-quadrant franchise in the mold of Guardians of the Galaxy.” It’s being developed in conjunction with the video game, which is currently in production and set for a Valentine’s Day release in 2024, according to a press release.

The series and LIAR, which received funding from the Canada Media Fund in 2022, are based on the character Rex Linwood, who originated in Titan1Studios’ flagship comic series Zomben.

In Wild Frontier, Rex is a space freighter pilot who has a robot for a best friend and reconnects with his high-school love as he becomes a space marshal.

Cooksey is also a writer on a live-action adaptation TV adaptation of Titan1’s comic series Knight Guardians of Relativity, which is currently in development, and serves as an executive producer on Titan1Studios’ series adaptation of Peace River, inspired partly by the production house’s video game Events at Unity Farm.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with someone of Jon’s calibre, experience and reputation as a storyteller. His comedic sensibilities and love of genre are the perfect match to take this project forward,” Moorthy said in a statement.
