Hot Sheet: Ted Lasso mounts a comeback to top demand charts

Meanwhile, the ESPN+ documentary series Quest for the Stanley Cup continued its upward climb on the digital originals chart as the NHL playoffs heat up.

Apple TV+ original Ted Lasso dominated the field to lead this week’s demand charts in Canada.

The sports comedy-drama (pictured), starring Jason Sudeikis, topped both the digital originals and overall TV demand charts for the week of April 24 to 30.

The series moved up two places on the digital chart and three spots on the overall chart to end the multi-week reign of Disney+ original The Mandalorian. It was 32.41 times more in demand than the average TV series in Canada compared to 31.66 from last week, according to Parrot Analytics.

The Mandalorian moved to the second spot in the digital originals chart and No. 3 on the overall TV demand with an average of 29.57, down nine points from the prior week.

The reshuffling of the top order has moved Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard (25.28) down one spot to No. 3 in digital originals and four spots to No. 6 in overall demand. Moving to the No. 2 slot on the overall list is HBO’s Succession (31.45), despite a slight decrease in demand from the week prior. Both series stream on Crave in Canada.

On the digital chart, Crave original Letterkenny (20.3), produced by Toronto’s New Metric Media, has held on to its No. 4 spot with a stable demand average. The series also entered the overall demand chart at No. 10.

ESPN+ documentary series Quest for the Stanley Cup continued its upward climb, coinciding with the first-round NHL playoff run of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers. Quest for the Stanley Cup entered the list last week at No. 9 with an average demand of 14.36 and moved to the sixth spot with an average of 16.49.

Netflix’s You (13.49) and The Witcher (13.48) re-entered the list at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.

On the overall TV chart, Showtime’s Yellowjackets (28.74), which also streams on Crave, moved up a spot to No. 4 despite a slight dip in demand, and Disney Channel’s The Owl House (26.48) moved from No. 8 to No. 5, gaining  just over a point weeks after airing its series finale. South Park and Sesame Street lost five points to land at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, while Toronto-based Spin Master Entertainment’s PAW Patrol (22.45) re-entered the list at No. 9.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
