The CW has acquired U.S. rights to CTV’s original drama series Sullivan’s Crossing.
The 10 x 60-minute series will make its U.S. debut as part of the CW’s fall broadcast lineup, and marks a return to the network for series stars Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls).
Sullivan’s Crossing is executive produced by Reel World Management in association with CTV and Fremantle, with Fremantle handling international distribution.
Reel World’s Roma Roth is showrunner and executive producer, with Christopher E. Perry also serving as an executive producer alongside Fremantle’s Michela Di Mondo and Hilary Martin. Producers on the series are Nova Scotia’s Mike Volpe and Ontario’s Mark Gingras.
The deal was negotiated by Fremantle’s Lisa Honig, EVP distribution North America, and the CW’s Kevin Levy, EVP program planning, scheduling and acquisitions.
Sullivan’s Crossing stars B.C. actor Morgan Kohan (Transplant) as a neurosurgeon who returns to her childhood home to clear her name after being charged with negligence, and finds herself reuniting with her estranged father. The series was filmed in Nova Scotia and premiered on CTV on March 19.
The series is based on a five-novel series from U.S. author Robyn Carr, who also penned the Virgin River book series, which was adapted as an original series for Netflix and produced by Reel World Management.
“The CW is a place where strong, character-driven family dramas shine and we couldn’t have asked for a better home for Sullivan’s Crossing,” said Honig in a statement.
The CW president of entertainment Brad Schwartz previously told Playback Daily that “bringing Cancon to the CW and into the U.S. is a personal thing for me,” and the network is open to a variety of deal structures, including coproductions and acquisitions.
